What Will Be The Future of the Internet?

Even Vint Cerf (father of the internet) wouldn’t have imagined this advanced form of the internet that we experience today.

I mean, look around yourself – from your mobile phones to your smart refrigerators that help you cook meals and keep your food fresh, it has evolved to the point you might not think of the next big thing.

Pero habrá (But there will be)…

This is exactly what I will explore in this article.

I will try to be as realistic as possible while discussing the immense opportunities that I see as the internet further evolves. If that is something of interest to you, then keep on reading.

There Will Be Incredible New Ways to Communicate

Ha pasado un tiempo (It has been a while) since we saw a breakthrough technology in the communication niche. The last one was video calling – seeing the people that you are talking to. That was made possible because of the invention of the 4th generation of the internet.

Now, imagine communicating with the person in a space where your existence is digitally present. That’s called hologram technology. This technology will help businesses to improve their meeting along with customer service.

Some businesses, like Cox Internet, already go above and beyond by offering bilingual customer support. But I can’t even think about how amazing it would feel reaching out to Cox servicio al cliente, and actually seeing the representative showing me exactly what I need to do in my mother tongue (Spanish).

Now, taking it to the next level is communicating without even using your tongue – by using your thoughts. There has already been research where a device was fitted inside two brains, which then communicated via just the thoughts. The idea looks far-fetched right now, but if we live long enough, we might be able to see this.

Facebook Will Innovate the Digital Social Interaction

Facebook is owned by Meta, and people at Meta are trying to create a universe of their own – the Metaverse.

Let me explain the Metaverse: it is a virtual social platform where people will spend time doing what they love with the help of AR and VR. You will walk around the space, meet new people, talk to them, play games, and more. Las posibilidades son infinitas (The possibilities are endless), and it is super interesting.

Speaking of the possibilities, one of the most important ones will be collaboration. If you can interact with people and play games, you can definitely collaborate. It will become a hub of collaboration. If you have done a group project during the pandemic, you might already know how difficult it was to collaborate. Metaverse will eliminate all hassles of digital collaborations. I mean, when you are present at the exact space, communicating and playing your part will become a walk in the park.

Moreover, instead of scrolling through Reels, you will be able to live that Reel. No more yearning for the beautiful places around the earth, because you will be able to visit them in person (almost).

All in all, it would be great. You know what would be even greater? YouTube videos that you live.

YouTube Will Offer AI-powered Experiences

Google is a powerhouse when it comes to advanced technology, and YouTube, being their best product, will be no shy of upgrades.

Have you ever wanted to visit the cozy cafes in Edinburgh, but you just can’t? You want to visit the Great Pyramids of Egypt, but your work doesn’t allow you for that?

Well, you will be able to experience those with the help of YouTube, so you can live. Via VR technology, YouTube will create a digital space that will let you live the videos that you currently only watch on a two-dimensional screen. ¿No sería fantástico? (Wouldn’t that be fantastic?!)

Apart from that, Google’s content suggestion is already top-notch. When it is paired with more powerful AI algorithms and AR/VR, the experience will be increased by a mile.

So, expect nothing but great in the coming years – one of the greatest things will be a better search.

The Term Google Will Vanish

I totally didn’t mean Google as an entity, but as the search term. I mean, when you say “Let me Google it, and look for the details”.

In the future, you will say: “Let me talk to my personal digital assistant”. It is confusing right now, but I will elaborate. Google is a search engine, and right now, if you have to search for something, you likely will type. But in the future, when voice search is so refined that it can detect your emotions along with your intent, and then represent the information not just as text but as a 3-D model through a hologram, you will likely use your voice.

At this point, there will be no one Googling it, but feeling the search result, which is great.

At the end, Sólo quiero decir (I just want to say) that the future of the internet looks bright. As soon as the 5G technology matures and reaches the masses, the possibilities we have discussed will become a reality. So, let’s just wait and watch for now.
